FAQ Premium Wide Plank Countertops

How are the boards selected for your Premium Wide Plank Countertops?

We hand-select boards from 5-8 inches in width and look for the longest boards with the highest quality. We make every effort to use boards with similar grain patterns and color tones. The boards don’t include any sapwood, ensuring that Premium Wide Plank countertops have a beautiful and natural flow.

Are Premium Wide Plank countertops safe to cut on?

In order to protect the hand-rubbed Marine Finish, and to avoid cut-marks, we recommend the use of a cutting board.

Can hot pots and pans be placed directly on the surface of a Premium Wide Plank countertop?

In order to protect the Marine Finish, we recommend the use of trivets.

Can an undermount sink be placed into a Premium Wide Plank countertop?

Yes, you can certainly include a sink in your premium wide plank countertops. Premium Wide Plank countertops are a great choice for a sink because they are waterproof. The Marine Finish protects the top from any water stains.

What color or stain options are available for Premium Wide Plank countertops?

We offer several of our standard stain options for our Premium Wide Plank countertops. You can view these options on our Color Options page. Custom stain options are also available.

Is it possible to have a built-up edge for my countertop?

Yes, we can do a built-up edge. There are several complex profiles in our edge library for this. When possible, we prefer to build full thickness tops from high quality solid timbers to ensure the stability of the top and honesty of the design; it’s also more cost effective since it is labor intensive to build up the edge. Some exotic wood species are not available thicker than 1 ½” so a built up edge is a perfect solution to give the appearance of a thicker top.

I’m interested in a wood species that you don’t list on your website, can you get it?

We stock our most frequently requested woods and we have quick access to most other wood species. Call us to discuss your options.

Do you offer green countertop options?

Yes. Re-purposed woods such as Antique Heart Pine and Antique Chestnut are collected from fine, aged homes and barns. Fast-growth woods such as Lyptus and Bamboo are also an excellent green alternative. See our Green Statement for more information.

Are Premium Wide Plank countertops stain proof or waterproof?

Yes. Our Premium Wide Plank tops include a Marine Finish, which will fully protect the top from water and stains. Occasionally, water will cause a white, foggy, area that is easily removed by using a hair dryer on the affected area.

What Does the Marine Finish Look Like?

Your countertop will arrive with a very perfect and perhaps glossy finish. This is intended to dull down with use. The top will develop a patina; this creates the “personality” of your countertop and is to be enjoyed as a unique finish. You may also see some wispy scratches over time.

Do Premium Wide Plank countertops require a lot of maintenance?

No. Our Premium Wide Plank countertops do not require much maintenance, the Marine Finish lasts for the lifetime of the countertop. Occasional application of Lemon Pledge or Weimans Furniture Cream will do quite well to maintain the luster of the finish.

What is the turnaround time for your Premium Wide Plank countertops?

Wood countertops generally take approximately 2-3 weeks to complete from the time we receive approved shop drawings.
