Copper backsplashes are a warm and classic addition to a kitchen. An old-world metal, copper is incredibly durable and can withstand all kinds of daily use. Metal backsplash panels are a great alternative to tile backsplashes. They can be made in textures or patterns that may reflect the feeling of tile or it can be left smooth for a more uniform look.
Copper, like most metals, is easy to maintain. For daily cleaning, we recommend using Windex, or any other mild, non-abrasive cleaner. As a reactive metal, copper has a "living finish" that will continue to evolve over the lifetime of the backsplash. Over time, you will see the copper backsplashes begin to develop a patina and pattern of use where there will be a mixture of light and dark areas. This is a desired trait of working with copper and is considered to be part of the charm of this material. Areas of heavy use, like behind the range, will show light spots while areas that don't see a lot of use will appear darker.
While a natural patina will take about a year to develop in full, another option is to have the patina chemically applied in our shop. This will be a darker and more dramatic patina than what would occur naturally. Some acidic household items may remove the patina if they should come in contact with the copper backsplash. The patina finish will also continue to evolve throughout the lifetime of the countertop. This living finish makes each backsplash panel unique.
