THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT MATTE FINISH ARTISAN CAST PRODUCTS:

• Your countertop comes with a matte finish. It has NO protective coating.

• Artisan Cast metal surfaces are a cast metallic resin applied to a real wood core or to an exterior grade substrate.

• Your countertop will acquire a natural patina.

• Surfaces will show distressing, imperfections, and patina to create a "time-honored" or "rustic" appearance.

• Artisan Cast is well-suited for decorative edge profiles, accent furniture, and range hood bodies.

THERE ARE TWO WAYS TO ENJOY ARTISAN CAST METAL PRODUCTS

INDUSTRIAL STYLE

This method lets the oxidation and tarnish build up without interfering and allows it to form a unique pattern of use and patina. This will happen gradually and may look strange or spotty at first until it covers the top. This look is not for everyone but requires minimal maintenance.

MAINTAINING THE INDUSTRIAL STYLE FINISH

DAY TO DAY CLEANING

  • The patina that develops is a very thin coating that can be easily removed, so some care must be taken.
  • Windex or mild soap and water can be used for daily cleaning.
  • Use trivets for oven-hot dishes and cutting boards for chopping to protect the surface.
  • Wipe up any liquids or spills promptly to prevent very specific spotting or drink rings.

LONG-TERM MAINTENANCE

  • The patina has no protective coating.
  • Sand and buffing will remove scratches but will also remove the patina.
  • The patina will return but will be in a different pattern.
  • Acidic items, like lemon juice, will remove the patina.
  • Patina will change with wear, tear, and time.
  • This creates a unique pattern of use that can't be intentionally recreated.
  • The patina itself is not under warranty after installation.
  • Brooks Custom does not guarantee its patina finish to match the patina of a sample or to another manufacturer.

LIKE-NEW STYLE

Use this method if you intend on keeping the matte finish the top arrived with. This method requires more attention by homeowners or cleaning staff in maintaining the metal surface using fine steel wool (in order to remove any areas that have reacted to food or household use).

MAINTAINING THE LIKE-NEW FINISH

DAY TO DAY CLEANING

  • Use Windex or other non-abrasive cleaners for regular cleaning.
  • Clean up spills as soon as possible.
  • Do not leave standing water or liquids for an extended period to prevent marks or drink rings.
  • Treat the surface like real metal.

LONG-TERM MAINTENANCE

  • Scrub with 4/0 steel wool, rub dry, and spot clean with Meguairs Metal Polish.

WHAT ABOUT SCRATCHES?

  • Just like real metal, scuffs and scratches will appear on the surface.
  • Copper and Aluminum are soft metals and will scratch easily.
  • Nickel and Stainless Steel are harder metals and are less likely to show scratches.
  • For any oxidation, tarnish or scratches - blend them out using a fine steel wool pad (0000) in a random motion.

To prevent scratches and marks:

  •  Do not cut directly on the surface; use cutting boards for food prep.
  • Avoid sliding abrasive items across the countertop surface.
  • Artisan Cast metal is heat resistant. Use trivets for oven-hot pots and pans.
  • Surface is safe for contact with boiling water.

REPAIRABLE:

  • Often, tops are repairable in place.
  • For deep scratches and severe dings, you may schedule our service technician to repair and blend the damage.
  • The outcome will be unobtrusive.
  • Deep Gouges: A fresh repair kit can be sent to be mixed on site.
    • Let sit to cure overnight and sand the top through the grades and blend using steel wool.
  • Light Scratches: Use steel wool up through grade 4/0 to blend out scratches.
  • Tarnish or Oxidation: The intention of artisan cast metal is to show age like raw sheet metal.
    • The luster can be restored using 4/0 steel wool and a clean cotton cloth or buffing wheel.

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT PATINA FINISH ARTISAN CAST PRODUCTS:

  • Your countertop comes with an applied patina to simulate enhanced aging.
  • Patina will continue to evolve throughout the lifetime of the product.
